Position: Vice President of Capacity and Compliance
Location: Etobicoke

Work Model: Hybrid


Overview:

The Vice President of Capacity and Compliance is a key leadership role responsible for guiding a high-performing team. This position involves defining the organization’s strategic vision for risk management and safety, ensuring the successful implementation of that vision across the company while collaborating with both internal and external stakeholders. The salary range for this role is between $140,000 - $175,000 and is dependent on experience

The role demands a strong understanding of the company’s internal processes, as well as a deep knowledge of the industry. Additionally, the Vice President ensures that the company’s fleet management program is compliant, with properly maintained power and trailing units, reducing downtime and minimizing costs.


Key Responsibilities:

Leadership & Team Management:

  • Directly oversee and support the Director of Recruiting and Retention, Manager of Safety and Compliance, and Manager of Fleet Maintenance.
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive plan to advance the company's objectives in Capacity and Compliance.
  • Assess and introduce new strategies such as technology enhancements and social media opportunities to optimize operations.
  • Foster a culture focused on managing risk effectively and ensuring safety within the organization.

Risk Management & Compliance:

  • Ensure the organization’s risk management strategies adhere to relevant laws, regulatory standards, and the company’s overall strategic goals.
  • Continuously monitor and analyze risks, providing regular updates to the Senior Leadership Team (SLT).
  • Supervise the management of insurance programs, claims, and loss prevention initiatives.
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with third-party vendors, including brokers and insurers, to ensure optimal risk management solutions.

Recruitment & Fleet Management:

  • Lead recruitment efforts for owner-operators
  • Define the qualifications required for driver applicants and ensure compliance with regulatory and company-specific standards.
  • Manage and attend trade shows and recruitment events to promote the company’s employer brand.
  • Collaborate with Operations teams to establish recruitment goals and objectives across various regions.
  • Evaluate and refine recruiting processes, including the optimization of recruitment tools and software.

Fleet Maintenance:

  • Provide input on the development of the maintenance budget, ensuring that it aligns with policies and cost objectives.
  • Communicate maintenance needs effectively to ensure operational efficiency and implement corrective actions when necessary.
  • Identify training needs for the maintenance team and ensure that required training is completed successfully.

Strategic Planning & Reporting:

  • Conduct analysis of competitors and share insights with the leadership team to guide strategic decisions.
  • Prepare and present management reports as required.
  • Oversee the company’s safety programs, including the self-insured contractors’ compensation plans.
  • Lead or participate in risk management training initiatives across the organization.

Experience & Skills:

Experience:

  • At least 10 years of experience in the transportation industry and operations.
  • A proven history of success in leadership roles, particularly within risk management, safety, and recruitment.
  • A strong network and industry connections to support business growth and development.
  • Experience in ensuring compliance and optimizing operations across recruiting and fleet management.

Skills:

  • Leadership: Ability to inspire, mentor, and develop team members while fostering strong relationships across departments.
  • Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders.
  • Risk Management: Expertise in managing risk and insurance programs to improve operational efficiency.
  • Recruitment: Proficient in recruitment processes, focusing on driver acquisition and retention.
  • Analytical Thinking: Strong analytical skills to assess and manage risks, with the ability to implement effective solutions.
  • Technology: Familiarity with recruitment tools, fleet management software, and other relevant systems.

Qualifications:

  • Education: A university degree, college diploma, or equivalent experience in the industry.
  • Certifications: Relevant certifications in transportation, risk management, or safety are a plus.
  • Leadership Experience: 5-10+ years in senior management positions, with a focus on operational leadership and team development.
  • Industry Expertise: Thorough knowledge of the transportation industry, regulations, and a deep understanding on the owner operator market
