About Our Client
Our client, located in Mississauga, is hiring a Tax Specialist for a permanent position and will report to the Controller.
The Tax Specialist will oversee Canadian tax compliance, audits, and strategic tax projects, you will also collaborate with legal counsel.
Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with Canadian tax legislation, including preparation of Canadian corporate tax returns, SR&ED claims, and foreign affiliate reporting
- Act as the primary liaison with Canadian and US tax authorities during tax audits
- Prepare quarterly and year-end tax provisions and aid in the preparation of working papers supporting US corporate tax returns
- Lead tax research initiatives and oversee projects, including transfer pricing studies
- Collaborate with legal counsel on contract interpretation, dispute resolution, and risk evaluation
- Provide tax advice and support for material transactions such as mergers and acquisitions
- Maintain official corporate filings, IP asset records, and regulatory reports
- Oversee corporate insurance arrangements, renewals, and negotiations, ensuring adequate protection
- Manage the liability claims notification process to insurers, ensuring efficient claims handling
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, taxation, finance, business, or a related field
- Proven experience in tax management and collaboration with legal counsel
- Extensive knowledge of tax legislation and compliance in Canada
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
