About the Role:

Our client in the Real Estate space is looking to add a Tax Manager to their growing team. This role involves overseeing the preparation of supporting documentation for tax filings, including estimates, apportionment schedules, and other related reports. Working closely with cross-functional partners, the Tax Manager will help streamline processes and develop tools to better manage compliance, cash tax planning, and overall administrative spend. The position also serves as a primary liaison with third-party operators and advisors, coordinating on partnership tax matters, return reviews, and payment requirements.

Responsibilities:
  • Oversee all aspects of tax compliance, including review of workpapers and internally or externally prepared returns.
  • Monitor quarterly installment requirements and coordinate payments with the Treasury team.
  • Prepare or review journal entries tied to tax payments, refunds, and related activity.
  • Review monthly Canadian tax provisions and ensure their accurate consolidation into global reporting.
  • Analyze capital expenditures to determine correct tax treatment and classification.
  • Conduct quarterly assessments of thin capitalization and EIFEL limits, and recommend strategies to ensure compliance.
  • Maintain PUC and ACB balances for corporate and partnership entities, researching technical issues and documenting tax positions as needed.
  • Lead automation initiatives for trial balance imports across all legal entities.
  • Collaborate with Legal and Accounting on entity management activities, such as registrations, dissolutions, and elections.
  • Act as the main point of contact for operating partners regarding income allocations, filings, payments, and related documentation.
  • Respond promptly to tax authority notices and inquiries, providing support and rationale for tax positions taken.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field required; CPA preferred but not required.
  • 5+ years of tax experience in a CPA firm or corporate tax department.
  • In-Depth Tax Program completed.
  • Exceptional analytical, communication, and presentation skills, with strong attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated success working both independently and as part of a collaborative, fast-paced team environment.
  • Team-oriented mindset with a strong commitment to providing high-quality, service-focused support.
  • Self-driven, organized, and professional, with a proactive approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement.
