About the Role:

Our client, a well-established Canadian financial services organization, is seeking a Senior Manager, Tax to join their finance team. Reporting directly to the Director, Accounting & Tax, this role will serve as the primary tax resource for the organization, supporting all aspects of corporate income tax and indirect tax compliance, reporting, planning, and advisory activities.

This is a highly visible position suited to an experienced tax professional who enjoys balancing strategic responsibilities with hands-on execution. The successful candidate will be involved in tax provisions, compliance, audits, research, planning initiatives, and cross-functional business support, while helping drive continuous improvement across the tax function.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and review quarterly and annual income tax provisions, including current and deferred tax calculations under IFRS.
  • Oversee corporate income tax compliance, including tax return preparation, supporting schedules, and coordination with external tax advisors.
  • Manage indirect tax compliance activities, including GST/HST filings, reconciliations, investigations, and related reporting requirements.
  • Perform tax research and provide guidance on complex tax matters, new business initiatives, and evolving tax legislation.
  • Support tax planning initiatives focused on improving tax efficiency, minimizing risk, and optimizing cash tax outcomes.
  • Lead responses to tax authority audits, examinations, and information requests while coordinating with external advisors as required.
  • Review financial transactions and general ledger activity to determine appropriate tax treatment and reporting implications.
  • Partner with finance, accounting, legal, and business stakeholders to assess the tax impact of operational and strategic initiatives.
  • Support transfer pricing documentation, intercompany arrangements, and related compliance requirements.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance processes, strengthen controls, and improve the overall effectiveness of the tax function.
  • Provide guidance and oversight to junior team members supporting tax-related activities.


Qualifications:

  • CPA designation required.
  • Completion of the CPA In-Depth Tax Program (Levels I & II) or Master of Taxation (MTax/MBT equivalent) is required.
  • 7+ years of progressive tax experience gained within public accounting, industry, or a combination of both.
  • Strong technical knowledge of Canadian corporate income tax, indirect tax, and tax provisioning under IFRS.
  • Hands-on experience preparing and reviewing tax provisions, tax returns, and supporting tax analyses.
  • Experience within financial services, lending, leasing, asset management, or similarly regulated industries is preferred.
  • Experience managing tax audits, government reviews, and relationships with external tax advisors.
  • Exposure to transfer pricing and intercompany tax matters is considered an asset.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Comfortable operating in a lean environment with a willingness to balance strategic responsibilities and detailed execution.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills with the ability to build strong cross-functional relationships.
