About the Role:
Our client is seeking a Senior Construction Accountant to support the financial management of multiple active construction and development projects. Working closely with project, construction, and finance teams, this role is responsible for project cost tracking, invoice processing, funding support, financial reporting, and budget monitoring.
Reporting to the Construction Finance team, the successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining financial accuracy, supporting project execution, and providing insights that help drive informed business decisions across a portfolio of active developments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review and process construction-related invoices, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with internal controls and approval requirements.
- Partner with Project Managers and construction teams to validate project costs, commitments, change orders, and supporting documentation.
- Monitor project budgets, cost transfers, and ongoing project expenditures to support effective cost management.
- Coordinate monthly construction draw submissions and supporting schedules for lenders and project stakeholders.
- Assist with project funding activities, cash flow reporting, and lender documentation requirements.
- Support month-end close activities, project reconciliations, and financial reporting requirements.
- Analyze project costs, trends, and variances to support budgeting, forecasting, and decision-making.
- Maintain project tracking schedules, databases, and reporting tools used to monitor project performance.
- Assist with project audits, cost reviews, and project closeout activities.
- Develop and enhance financial models, reports, and tracking tools to improve efficiency and reporting accuracy.
- Support process improvement initiatives and help strengthen accounting procedures, documentation standards, and internal controls.
- Collaborate with finance, construction, and project teams to streamline workflows related to contracts, procurement, invoicing, and cost management.
- Participate in special projects and ad hoc analysis as required.
Qualifications:
- Degree or diploma in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field.
- Experience in construction accounting, project accounting, real estate development, or a similar project-based environment.
- CPA designation or active pursuit of the designation is considered an asset.
- Advanced Excel skills with strong proficiency across the Microsoft Office suite.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage large volumes of financial information.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively across finance, operations, and project teams.
- Proactive, self-motivated, and comfortable working in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
- Experience supporting large-scale construction, infrastructure, development, or capital projects is considered an asset.
