Position Title: Senior Accountant – Construction

Salary & Benefits: $70,000-$85,000 plus benefits and 3 weeks vacation

With a team of over 250 full-time employees, top contractors, and professionals, they have successfully built more than 8,000 Tarion-certified homes, 4,000 condominiums, and several retirement homes totaling 700 suites. They are currently seeking a Senior Accountant who can proactively identify, analyze, evaluate, and resolve accounting issues with minimal supervision. They are seeking support for their development team with a mandate for continuous real estate construction projects.

The Senior Accountant will be responsible for managing and overseeing financial activities, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, and supporting financial decision-making. This role requires expertise in construction accounting, cost control, and financial reporting. The ideal candidate is highly analytical, organized, and experienced in managing project-based finances.

Key Responsibilities:

• Oversee general accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and bank reconciliations.
• Maintain the general ledger and ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.
• Prepare financial statements, management reports, and job cost analyses.
• Track and analyze project costs, budget variances, and contract profitability.
• Collaborate with project managers to provide financial insights and budget recommendations.
• Assist in forecasting, financial planning, and cash flow management.
• Reconcile job costs and work-in-progress (WIP) schedules.
• Prepare and file tax reports, including sales tax, payroll tax, and corporate tax returns.
• Support external audits by preparing documentation and responding to auditor inquiries.
• Implement and maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets and financial integrity.
• Stay updated on industry trends, accounting standards, and regulatory changes.

The ideal candidate holds a degree in accounting, or Business Administration, with pursuit of a CPA designation preferred. You should have a minimum of five (5) years of accounting experience, ideally within the construction industry. A strong understanding of full cycle accounting, job costing, and financial reporting is essential to this position. Proficiency and adaptability to new accounting software along with advanced Excel skills is required. You must be able to demonstrate excellent attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and the capacity to meet deadlines. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are necessary for collaboration with various teams, and the ability to work independently while managing multiple projects effectively is crucial.
