Our Client is a specialized product fabrication and installation company serving the Ottawa area for over 60 years, with a reputation for outstanding product value and customer service. The Quality Control Officer / Manager plays a pivotal role in steering the company’s quality assurance and quality control functions by leading the design, implementation, and maintenance of a comprehensive Quality Management System (QMS). This system is critical to ensuring that products consistently conform to established quality standards and meet customer expectations. The Quality Officer is responsible for leading the Quality team, fostering the adoption of quality policies, and setting high standards across all stages of the product lifecycle.

In this role, the Quality Officer / Manager collaborates closely with various departments, including Project Management, Engineering, Production, and the Performance Improvement team. This collaboration ensures an integrated approach to quality management that supports sustainable growth and preserves our reputation as a quality-focused organization. We are looking for someone who wants to lead and build a team.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Policy Development & Implementation: Develop and oversee the implementation of policies, procedures, and standards for quality assurance and control throughout the product lifecycle. This includes creating training materials and conducting activities to support the adoption of new processes and procedures.
  • Quality Standards Evaluation: Regularly assess and update quality standards to ensure they are reliable and compliant with company expectations. Implement continuous quality monitoring systems throughout the manufacturing process to ensure each stage's outputs align with engineering specifications and internal quality benchmarks.
  • Data Management & Reporting: Establish and maintain a system for effective data management and reporting. Monitor quality statistics and key performance indicators (KPIs), preparing detailed reports for senior management to inform strategic decision-making.
  • Documentation & Issue Resolution: Ensure thorough documentation of quality issues and their resolutions, maintaining the internal rework tracking system. Analyze recurring issues and propose enhancements. Lead or participate in case studies and issue analysis to uncover quality improvement opportunities that can advance the production process.
  • Customer Liaison: Work closely with the Project Management department to understand customer requirements and expectations. Engage in customer communications as needed to resolve quality-related issues, leading investigations, and implementing solutions to meet customer needs.
  • Engineering Collaboration: Partner with the Engineering department, particularly in R&D product and prototype testing, and contribute to other quality-related initiatives as necessary.
  • Supplier Compliance: Participate in developing and reviewing quality specifications for core raw materials. Assist in monitoring supplier compliance to ensure they meet established quality standards.

The Ideal Candidate for the Quality Officer / Manager role must possess a blend of leadership, technical expertise, and interpersonal skills to effectively guide and support the Quality team in achieving excellence. Candidates for this role should hold a bachelor’s degree in engineering, business administration, or a related field, and have at least 5 years of progressive experience in quality control or assurance. Essential skills include a thorough understanding of quality control and assurance processes, familiarity with relevant standards and regulations, and strong data analysis and statistical abilities. The candidate will also demonstrate exceptional active listening skills, excellent written and spoken communication, and proficiency in Microsoft Excel for data entry, analysis, and reporting. Effective people management skills are crucial, including the ability to motivate and engage team members. Additionally, strong analytical and problem-solving skills are required, with a willingness to challenge the status quo to achieve optimal results. Preferred qualifications include training in project management and certification in quality management methodologies such as Six Sigma (Green or Black Belt) or Certified Quality Manager (CQM). These additional qualifications will enhance the candidate's ability to lead and implement quality improvement initiatives within the organization.
