About the role/firm:
The Production Manager ensures production of quality products to meet production plans, to resolve plant problems, and to optimize plant operations in a safe and environmentally responsible manner. In this role, the Production Manager is the technical focal point in the areas of process engineering and process control for the Firms Sombra Process Operators. Through the Production Supervisor, provide leadership to the Firms Sombra Process Operators. Ensures the delivery of training to the Firms Sombra Operations Team. As well, this position is responsible for integrating and managing operational support functions at the Hamilton facility, including Health, Safety, Security and Environment (HSSE) and Quality Management Systems.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- Promotes and supports the concepts of a “learning organization”, “continuous improvement” and “teamwork”. Assists in the supervision and coordination of activities of the Firms Sombra Operations Team.
- Coordination and management of plant operational functions:
- Day-to-day activities to ensure safe, environmentally sound and efficient plant operations
- Responsible to ensure HSSE performance and compliance for our Sombra Operations Team
- Evaluate, coach and correct employee behaviour as their mentor
- Provides recommendations for promotions, termination, advanced training, work allocation, and personnel problem resolution
- Ensures the proper management of employees’ hours of work, including timesheets and vacation coverage, attendance management and scheduling of shifts
- Analyze and eliminate inefficiencies in plant operations
- Recommends courses of action designed to eliminate potential production problems and to improve operational efficiency and control production costs
- From time to time, in conjunction with other functional managers, coordinates and oversees activities of contractors, vendor personnel, and suppliers as required
- Assists in the annual budget planning process and regularly monitor expenditures
- Ensures the maintenance of logs and records of plant operations to include historical, process data and prepares reports for the Operations Manager and the Plant Manager
- Assists in the operational readiness drills to ensure that the Firms Sombra Operations Team and emergency procedures meet the government and the Firms Sombra standards of readiness
- Assists in the development, coordination, implementation, validation and ongoing administration of the following operational support systems:
- Ensures compliance with all FORGE Sombra HSSE procedures
- Collection of Monthly Safety Statistics
- Management Lead Representative on JHSC
- Coordinate inspections of all safety systems within designated timeframes
- Point person for internal incident reporting and follow-up
- Coordinate internal and external safety audits
- Emergency Response Training and Preparation
- Coordinate Environmental Reporting:
- NPRI
- MECP Yearly Report
- RPRA Management
- Training Program and Administration:
- Maintenance of The Firms Sombra/Corporate – Training Matrix
- Plan and coordinate all safety and environmental training both internal and external
- Logistics Administration:
- Coordinate and monitor plans:
- Weekly Production Plan
- Weekly Feedstock Plan
- Weekly Chemical Delivery Plan
- Weekly Terminal Services Plans
- Coordination of Terminal Services activities
- Within the above scope, develop and implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and Operations Work Instructions (OWI).
- Ongoing review/validation of SOPs and implementation of updates
- Assist in the development of the Firms Sombra training plan to include:
- Initial training for all new employees
- Continuous, refresher training
- Advanced training
- The Firms Sombra certification program for each position levels
- Ongoing HSSE Training
- Sombra operational evaluations and exercises
Minimum Qualifications and Skills:
This position requires a technical degree, in engineering or a similar discipline preferably chemical engineering and 10 years working in and industrial environment.
