Job Description

Our client is looking to hire a Payroll Manager for their team. This is a stand-alone role where you will have the opportunity to own the entire payroll function.
You will manage the bi-weekly payroll cycle for over 300 employees across AB, ON, and NS, encompassing both salaried and hourly staff.

Responsibilities:

  • Overseeing the precise and timely completion of the bi-weekly payroll cycle and its associated reporting.
  • Handling new hires and terminations, encompassing final pay calculations, ROE issuance, and processing transfers and promotions as per directives from Human Resources.
  • Managing employee benefits and RRSP contributions.
  • Assisting with annual merit increases, special calculations, and retroactive adjustments for payroll reporting and processing.
  • Conducting year-end payroll filings, returns, reports, and T4s.
  • Collaborating with managers to ensure accurate recording of employee time and attendance in the timesheet system.
  • Generating accurate and timely reports, collaborating with Project Managers and Accounting to address discrepancies or issues related to hours, project coding, etc.
  • Coordinating with Site Administrators to validate subcontractor and worker hours, ensuring correct coding in the contractor timesheet system.
  • Collaborating with Human Resources to address employee payroll inquiries and provide guidance on timesheets and payroll processes.
  • Ensuring adherence to internal controls pertaining to the payroll process.
  • Serving as an internal expert on provincial payroll legislation, collective agreements, and industry standards.
  • Guaranteeing compliance with company policies and legal requirements governing employee compensation and allowances.
  • Remaining abreast of labor laws and regulations pertinent to payroll, including compliance matters and system upgrades.
Qualifications:
  • Minimum 5 years of full-cycle payroll experience
  • Experience working in a unionized environment
  • PCP or CPM preferred
  • Experience with Ceridian Dayforce considered a strong asset
  • Strong knowledge of payroll legislation
  • Experience in a stand-alone payroll position is strongly preferred
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
