POSITION: PAINTER - PHSA

JOB TYPE: Permanent

STARTING WAGE: $36.48/hr

WORKING HOURS: 7 am to 3 pm

START DATE: ASAP

LOCATION: BC Children's and Women's Hospital and Health Centre -
4500 Oak St, Vancouver, BC V6H 3N1


Responsibilities

- Communicate with the Carpentry Supervisor to get instructions on basic maintenance and building requirements pertaining to planned painting and signage work
- Examines work requests, consults with user departments on specifications and other project requirements, and interprets blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine the tools and materials needed
- Prepares a variety of surfaces for painting by removing existing paint, taping, filling cracks, scraping and sanding existing surfaces, and applying putty and/or plaster, as necessary. Prepares paint and other applicable finishes
- Chooses and uses a number of instruments, including brushes, paint rollers, sprayers, and hand power tools, to choose and apply coatings, such as paint, varnish, and stains, to a variety of interior and exterior surfaces
- Assembles different types of signage for coverage of surfaces by cutting vinyl lettering, choosing and cutting the right blackboard, and installing lettering onto the blackboard. This work also involves minor repairs and the installation of ceramic tiles
- Cleans prepares, and paints all external fire hydrants; paints parking lines, concrete retaining walls, parking stops, lettering, numbering, and directional arrows all over the site's parking lots, loading docks, and roads
- Assigns work duties to designated workers, offers training and orientation in connection with those activities, and organizes staging, scaffolding, and rigging
- Monitors the inventory of all supplies, equipment, and tools and follows up with related reports and records
- Ad-hoc duties as required


Qualifications

- Certificate of Apprenticeship or Trades Qualification Certificate as a journeyman Painter and Decorator recognized by the Province of BC is required
- A minimum of 2 years of experience is necessary
- Impressive communication skills both oral and written
- Works well with others and in a team
- Ability to carry out the job
- Capability to read and understand drawings, blueprints, and specifications
- Self-driven and motivated
