About Our Client

Our client is a leading manufacturer specializing in high-quality custom metal products for commercial and industrial use. They are seeking a dedicated Operations Manager to oversee plant operations, production efficiency, safety, and team leadership. This role requires a hands-on leader who can drive continuous improvement, maintain operational standards, and support a safe, compliant, and productive work environment.

Compensation - 150k - 170k

Responsibilities

Health & Safety

  • Ensure all safety policies, procedures, and regulations are followed, including OHSA, WSIB, WHMIS, and company-specific safety protocols.
  • Conduct and participate in safety reporting, incident investigations, and Joint Health & Safety Committee activities.
  • Promote a strong safety culture and ensure employees use required PPE and follow lockout/tagout procedures.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and compliant work environment.

Operational Leadership

  • Lead and manage plant operations including material receiving, production, maintenance, shipping, and staffing.
  • Set departmental goals and objectives, and supervise team leads and employees.
  • Drive lean manufacturing practices and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Monitor daily operations to ensure schedules, deadlines, and production targets are met.
  • Oversee purchasing of materials and equipment to ensure uninterrupted production at optimal cost.
  • Analyze KPIs such as labour efficiency, productivity, absenteeism, inventory levels, and backlog.
  • Identify performance gaps and execute improvement plans.

Quality & Environmental Compliance

  • Ensure quality standards are maintained and nonconformities are addressed promptly.
  • Support quality assurance processes and ensure compliance with internal standards.
  • Enforce environmental policies, waste reduction initiatives, and recycling programs.
  • Handle and resolve quality or environmental concerns as needed.

Employee Relations & Communication

  • Maintain strong communication with employees, supervisors, and senior management.
  • Provide training, coaching, and support for staff development.
  • Enforce company policies, workplace conduct standards, and procedures.
  • Commit necessary hours to fulfill the responsibilities of the role.

Strategic & Capital Planning

  • Contribute to corporate strategy implementation and long-term operational planning.
  • Recommend and coordinate capital investments and major facility projects.
  • Ensure alignment between plant operations and organizational goals.

Qualifications

  • 5–10 years of operations or plant management experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong knowledge of production control, quality standards, and health and safety practices.
  • Experience with inventory control and compliance.
  • Background in creating SOPs, work instructions, and document control processes.
  • Understanding of 5S and lean manufacturing principles.
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Proficient with computer applications (Word, Excel, databases, presentations, email).
  • Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects with minimal supervision.
  • Adaptable, flexible, and comfortable working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
