Job Description

Location: Toronto, ON
Duration: 4 months, with potential for extension

Our client is seeking an experienced Legal Assistant to provide support to a Partner and two Associates working on complex litigation, negotiations, regulatory matters, and public law files. This is a fast-paced role requiring strong organization, attention to detail, and the ability to manage competing priorities.

Litigation experience is mandatory.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day legal and administrative support to multiple lawyers.
  • Prepare, format, proofread, and revise pleadings, affidavits, factums, motion materials, agreements, correspondence, and other legal documents.
  • Manage litigation calendars, deadlines, court filings, hearings, and trial materials.
  • Coordinate with courts, tribunals, opposing counsel, clients, experts, and other stakeholders.
  • Open, maintain, organize, and close files while ensuring document management systems remain accurate and up to date.
  • Manage lawyer calendars, meetings, travel, appointments, and other logistics.
  • Assist with billing, docketing, expense reports, and time entry.
  • Track active files and proactively follow up on deadlines and outstanding items.
  • Provide general administrative and project support as required.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of Legal Assistant experience within a law firm.
  • Mandatory experience supporting litigation files, including court documents and litigation deadlines.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to support multiple lawyers.
  • Excellent proofreading, written communication, and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365.
  • Experience with iManage or a similar document management system.
  • Professional, discreet, and able to handle confidential information.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively to a collaborative team.

Nice to Have:

  • Experience in Aboriginal/Indigenous law, constitutional law, public law, or Indigenous governance.
  • Familiarity with Ontario or other Canadian court filing procedures.
  • Legal Assistant, Law Clerk, or Paralegal diploma.
