About the Opportunity

A growing and highly respected legal services firm is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Legal Bookkeeper to take ownership of the organization's day-to-day financial operations. This is a critical position responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, managing trust accounting, overseeing payables and receivables, ensuring regulatory compliance, and providing financial reporting to leadership.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and bank reconciliations using QuickBooks Online (QBO) and legal practice management software.
  • Manage and reconcile trust accounts in strict accordance with Law Society regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Oversee the full accounts payable cycle, including invoice processing, approvals, and payment execution.
  • Monitor upcoming payment obligations and proactively communicate cash flow concerns to leadership.
  • Process client invoices, track outstanding balances, and follow up on overdue accounts professionally.
  • Process payroll and employee expense reimbursements accurately and on schedule.
  • Prepare and submit GST/HST filings, payroll remittances, and other statutory obligations.
  • Develop and maintain cash flow forecasts and provide regular financial updates to management.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial reports.
  • Coordinate with external accountants during year-end and audit-related activities.
  • Ensure financial records are accurate, compliant, and maintained with the highest level of confidentiality.
  • Seek clarification when needed and exercise sound judgment when managing financial matters.

Qualifications

  • 3–5 years of bookkeeping experience, within a legal environment.
  • Strong understanding of trust accounting and Law Society compliance requirements.
  • Experience independently managing GST/HST filings, payroll remittances, and related statutory obligations.
  • Proficiency with QuickBooks Online (QBO), Clio, and Plooto will prove an asset
  • Solid understanding of cash flow management, forecasting, and financial reporting.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently while effectively communicating with leadership.
