Our Client is a well-established legal firm, serving Ottawa for the last 45 years. They specialize in business disputes, insolvency, and collection matters, and provide litigation, real estate transaction management, and corporate legal needs. They have recently doubled in size and transitioned to new leadership. As a result, they seek an experienced litigation lawyer to help continue the growth trajectory. The firm has a new partnership at the top and through their succession plan, they are looking to continue with expansion opportunities. We are looking for a strong lawyer who is looking to join their litigation practice.
The Litigation Lawyer will be responsible for assisting with dispute resolution as it pertains to litigation or family law. You will be able to demonstrate strong client interfacing skills and sensitivity towards the clients. You will be expected to represent claimants and defendants and litigate cases in trial when required. You will bring strong dispute resolution skills when it comes to arbitration or mediation and be able to assist with initial case assessments, evidence review, etc. Your experience in pleading motions, initiating lawsuits, collaborating with clients, and drafting pre-trial motions will be critical. Proven ability to manage timelines & budgets for cases and oversee the disclosure processes is essential. Working with witnesses, putting together trial documents and case law, and identifying other means for dispute resolution are important.
The Ideal Candidate will be a minimum of 4 years post-Ontario bar. You will be able to demonstrate your savviness as a litigation lawyer but looking for a new home and team. Experience working within civil litigation, estate matters, and family law will be a huge asset. A high degree of professionalism and business ethics is expected. The perfect candidate will be looking to stay within litigation but won’t be afraid to help out in other areas. We are looking for a self-starter who is a strong communicator and wants to be part of a smaller team and a professional family. Must be a member of the Ontario Bar and Law Society of Ontario.
