Position: Designated Representative (Insurance Compliance & Licensing)
Location: Remote – Canada
Work Type: Full-Time, Remote
Salary Range: $85,000–$120,000 (flexible depending on experience)

They support consumers and partners across multiple provinces and territories through a multi-brand, multi-channel model. As the business continues to expand and evolve, they are seeking a seasoned and credentialed Designated Representative (DR) to lead national regulatory oversight, agent licensing governance, and compliance management. This role is highly strategic and essential to maintaining the organization’s ability to operate in full accordance with provincial and territorial insurance requirements.
The Designated Representative will serve as the primary regulatory contact for Canada and will partner closely with leaders across Operations, Licensing, Legal, Compliance, Sales, and cross-functional teams to maintain a strong compliance framework.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The Designated Representative will oversee regulatory compliance, governance, and licensing requirements across Canada. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Regulatory Oversight & Compliance
- Act as the primary point of contact for provincial and territorial insurance regulators.
- Ensure the organization remains fully compliant with all applicable insurance laws, regulations, and industry standards.
- Maintain all required agency and provincial licenses, including renewals, amendments, and supporting documentation.
- Develop, maintain, and enforce internal compliance programs, policies, and procedures.
- Conduct regular compliance reviews and ensure controls are operating effectively.
Licensing Governance
- Oversee agent licensing requirements across all active jurisdictions.
- Ensure agents maintain proper licensing, continuing education, and regulatory standing.
- Work closely with licensing teams to manage renewals, audits, CE credits, and compliance tracking.
Risk Management & Internal Collaboration
- Identify, assess, and escalate regulatory risks, operational gaps, and compliance concerns.
- Support internal and external audits by preparing materials, documentation, and corrective actions.
- Provide guidance to leadership on regulatory changes and operational impacts.
Policy Development & Continuous Improvement
- Develop and refine compliance policies, documentation, workflows, and governance frameworks.
- Lead compliance communications, updates, and training across the organization.
- Support new initiatives, programs, and changes by ensuring regulatory alignment.
Cross-Functional Partnership
- Collaborate with internal teams such as Legal, Licensing, Product, Operations, and Customer Experience.
- Participate in compliance reviews, monthly assessments, and leadership discussions.
- Provide insights to support strategic planning, operational decisions, and national licensing strategy.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
The ideal candidate will bring:
- Level 3 General Insurance Agent license, or clear eligibility to obtain Level 3 within regulatory timelines.
- CIP, CAIB, or CRM designation (CIP strongly preferred).
- 5+ years of experience in regulatory compliance, insurance operations, brokerage leadership, or agency management.
- Strong understanding of multi-province P&C regulatory frameworks.
- Experience overseeing agent licensing, renewals, and compliance processes.
- Strong analytical, documentation, and governance skills.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret legislation and regulatory requirements.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and stakeholder management capabilities.
- Ability to work independently in a remote environment with high accountability.
WHAT WILL MAKE YOU STAND OUT
- Prior experience acting as a Designated Representative, Nominee, Operating Agent, or equivalent
- Licensing experience spanning multiple provinces (AB, BC, MB, SK, ON, Atlantic regions).
- Background in insurance operations, compliance frameworks, or regulated environments.
- Proven ability to build or mature compliance programs.
- Experience supervising teams or overseeing agent activities.
- Ability to influence senior stakeholders and work cross-functionally.
- Strong commitment to regulatory integrity and continuous improvement.
