Job Description

Position Title: IT Manager

Location: Ottawa, ON

Work Model: Onsite

Additional Notes:

Our client, a well-established, membership-based non-profit organization, is seeking an experienced IT Manager to join their team. This is a hands-on, full-spectrum role where you'll be responsible for the availability, reliability, and security of the organization's technology environment—including networks, servers, applications, VoIP systems, databases, peripherals, and end-user equipment.

As a team of one, you’ll need both strategic vision and tactical expertise, supporting a robust infrastructure and a diverse user base in a BYOD environment. You’ll work closely with management and colleagues to assess needs, recommend improvements, and implement cost-effective solutions that align with organizational goals.

Key Responsibilities:

Planning & Strategy

  • Assess current infrastructure and develop strategies to transition to a more agile, cloud-based BYOD environment.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to define business and systems requirements for new technology implementations.
  • Stay on top of trends and emerging technologies; prepare strategic plans and budgets for IT infrastructure and services.

Technology Operations

  • Manage and maintain the Local Area Network, including hardware, software, user accounts, and security protocols.
  • Ensure compliance with all IT security guidelines and organizational processes.
  • Monitor and verify daily data backups.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot equipment issues, identifying root causes and coordinating repairs.

What We're Looking For:

The ideal candidate has a background in Windows systems administration, has independently managed networks, and is adept at both big-picture planning and daily troubleshooting. You're someone who embraces innovation, keeps security top-of-mind, and communicates effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences. You’re also comfortable working with third-party vendors and documenting processes with clarity.

What Will Make You Stand Out:

  • Post-secondary education in a related field and experience in a similar role
  • Proven experience as a Systems/Network Administrator in Windows-based environments
  • Expertise in Windows Server administration: Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, GPO, FSRM, Terminal Services, and Print Server
  • Solid understanding of network protocols, firewall technologies, and L2 switching
  • Hands-on experience with VMware ESXi and vCenter Server
  • Experience managing VoIP systems (e.g., Asterisk)
  • Familiarity with encryption software and key management
  • Experience with database server technologies
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 and cloud-based technologies

This is a great opportunity to take full ownership of an organization’s tech environment, make a strategic impact, and support meaningful work in the non-profit sector. Interested candidates are encouraged to reach out to Alex at ashecter@recruitingmotion.ca
