Job Description

Position Title: Fractional Controller/Consultant

Contract Duration: 3 days per week - open ended
Salary & Benefits: Consultancy rate - $50-60/hr
Position Status: Existing vacancy
Location: Downtown Ottawa)
Work Model: Mostly remote - some onsite for onboarding, maybe 2 days per month

Our client is a growing Canadian-based organization with international operations and investments, supporting a portfolio of businesses across Canada and the Caribbean. This is an exciting opportunity for a CPA-designated accounting professional who enjoys working in entrepreneurial environments and partnering closely with leadership teams. The role offers a high degree of flexibility and autonomy, making it ideal for someone seeking meaningful, hands-on work in a part-time consulting or fractional capacity.

This is a remote opportunity with occasional onsite requirements during onboarding and periodic in-person meetings approximately twice per month. The position is expected to require approximately 3 days per week on an ongoing, open-ended basis.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage full-cycle accounting for multiple entities, including journal entries, reconciliations, and general ledger maintenance
  • Lead month-end and year-end close processes across multiple business units
  • Prepare and review financial statements and supporting working papers
  • Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, and cash flow monitoring
  • Support payroll coordination and related compliance requirements
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning initiatives
  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards, tax filings, and reporting requirements across jurisdictions
  • Partner with leadership to provide financial insights, reporting, and operational support
  • Identify opportunities to improve processes, controls, and efficiencies
  • Liaise with external accountants, auditors, financial institutions, and advisors

Qualifications

  • CPA designation required
  • Proven experience managing full-cycle accounting and financial reporting across multiple entities or business units
  • Strong understanding of Canadian accounting practices; exposure to international or Caribbean operations considered an asset
  • Hands-on experience with month-end close, reconciliations, payroll support, and financial statement preparation
  • Advanced Excel and accounting systems proficiency
  • Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and thrive in a fast-paced environment
