Job Description

Our client is seeking an Extrusion Tooling Manager for their design and fabrication team. This is a permanent, full-time, on-site position based in Vaughan, Ontario. In this role, you will lead and manage a team responsible for the design and fabrication of extrusion tooling and product trials. Key responsibilities include:

  1. Ensure the Extrusion Tooling team works cohesively with quality, production, and engineering.
  2. Develop project plans detailing schedule, resources, equipment, and material requirements.
  3. Ensure work is completed in the required timeframe, specification compliant, and within budgetary requirements.
  4. Drive continuous process refinement and quality improvement through the capturing of KPIs related to process, cost, service, and quality.
  5. Lead the tooling development process for the creation of component and assembly designs, utilizing Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) principles and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to analyze design outcomes.
  6. In a cross-functional capacity, standardize design direction and finalize hard tool designs through capability studies.
  7. Lead testing and development and set up run sheet process parameters.
  8. Develop complex tools and introduce new technologies to produce roll form sections, components, and assemblies for new and existing customers.
  9. Coordinate the fabrication of in-house tooling and perform CAD data transfers and translations, as required.
  10. Liaise directly with customers and suppliers as required.
  11. Manage product trials, material trial runs, and testing per trial procedures.
  12. Develop roll form sections, set roll standards, and processes, and troubleshoot roll form tooling.
  13. Promote and comply with health, safety, and environmental standards, safe operating procedures, good housekeeping practices, and the observance of protective equipment requirements.
  14. Support Product Design Engineers by generating studies and concept sketches for the purpose of understanding, communicating, or overcoming technical issues.
  15. Lead the R&D of the extrusion process and parts development, generating innovative solutions to resolve issues as well as drive best practices, product improvements, and cost savings.

Requirements:

  1. Degree in Engineering (Industrial preferred) or Post-Secondary Education with extensive and relative work experience.
  2. Expert-level knowledge of Extrusion Tooling.
  3. 5+ years experience in a manufacturing environment (preferably automotive).
  4. 7+ years of related management experience (preferably within automotive).
  5. Strong communication, organizational, interpersonal, and analytical skills.
  6. Knowledge of 2D & 3D CAD (Unigraphics and AutoCAD) including experience with file creation, storage, conversion, and revision control.
  7. Advanced understanding of GD+T with the ability to devise dimensioning schemes that ensure fit and function of parts mating with other components in an assembly, and accounting for tolerance stack-ups.
  8. Strong technical background with an understanding of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) principles.
  9. Knowledge of SPC/CIP and Six Sigma techniques, Quality, and Environmental Management Systems.
  10. Familiar with FMEA, APQP, DOE, LEAN Manufacturing, and 5S methodologies.
  11. Knowledge of TS16949, ISO14001, and security (PIP) requirements.
