Engineering Project Manager

Job Description

Our client, located in Vaughan, ON is seeking an Engineering Project Manager for their team. This is a permanent, full-time position, reporting to the Application Centre Manager. Your primary responsibility will be to lead design engineering projects, ensuring they are successfully planned, executed, and completed on time and within budget. Key responsibilities include:

  1. Interact directly with customer, suppliers, and internal stakeholders (program management, purchasing and manufacturing) with regards to communication and planning of activities required to achieve project milestones and deliverables.
  2. Represent the Product Engineering Function within the Program Management Board as well as participate as a member of the Project Change Control Board.
  3. Create the project plan/handbook and customize the product engineering process, ensuring framework conditions are clearly specified, targets and deliverables are met, and comply with customer expectations, standards, and processes.
  4. Lead and coordinate engineering team activities to ensure project objectives are met in terms of cost, performance, and quality.
  5. Ensure the alignment of internal customer schedules and on-time, specification compliant customer deliverables.
  6. Determine, manage, and approve changes related to budget, schedule and resource allocation in collaboration with Program Management and Product Line Management.
  7. Track issues and utilize available resources to ensure timely and thorough problem resolution.
  8. Proactively manage and mitigate engineering project risks and escalate as required.
  9. Provide accurate and timely project status updates and reports.
  10. Assign tasks to project team members and manage project related conflicts.

Requirements:

  1. Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Mechatronics, or related discipline.
  2. Experience working within an electrical/electronics product design environment.
  3. 3+ years of automotive powertrain product development experience (pumps and engine components is preferred).
  4. Able to interpret technical specifications, drawings, test reports and related documents.
  5. Technical Project management experience sufficient to lead, plan, and track multiple concurrent engineering projects from a budgeting, compliance, and delivery perspective.
  6. Strong leadership, negotiating and influencing skills with the ability to work both independently and as part of a cross-functional team.
  7. Strong English communication skills (written, verbal and presentation) with the ability to hold technical discussions at all levels both internally and externally.
  8. Knowledge of automotive industry standards such as ISO 9000/IATF 16949, ISO 26262/ASIL and ASPICE.
  9. Knowledge of various processes, procedures, tools, and methodologies such as GD&T, QFD, DFM, VA/VE, DOE, DFMEA, 8D, etc.
  10. Strong computer skills, proficient with MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project).
