About the Role

We’re working with a well-established client in the transportation and logistics sector, seeking a Dock Shift Supervisor. This role is fully onsite at their Mississauga location and reports directly to the Director of Operations.


Responsibilities:

• Manage:

o safety to 0 LTA
o Labour cost per order
o Quality – Target < $ TBD per month
o Provide daily shift report

• Work with current processes to regularly evaluate KPI performance (daily/weekly/monthly),
Identify Opportunities and create actions to improve:
o Assist Dispatch Manager with Daily KPI Data Update by providing required reports daily
and on time
o Lead daily stand-up meetings & collaborate with Dispatch Manager to tackle
issues/opportunities and identify actions taken or recommended
o Participate in Weekly KPI review meeting with Terminal Manager to identify and act on
opportunities for improvement

• Daily shift report with comments related to opportunities (issues, trends, misses, gaps etc.) and
action plans / recommended action plans to address
• Identify opportunities for overall improvement and work with staff and other Department
Managers to drive action
• Manage Headcount requirements per shift to achieve KPI targets, including future outlook, trends
etc.
• Mentor and train Lead Hand in stretch role to coverage for vacation or other absence, and
prepare for next step
• Conduct performance reviews as required in collaboration with Terminal Manager and HR
• Ensure all tasks are completed and performed in accordance with company approved procedures,
standards and specifications
• Conduct safety audits on regular cadences to ensure Policies and Procedures are being followed;
Assist Director of Risk Management as requested to ensure a safe working environment
• Any other duties or tasks as delegated by Terminal Manager
• Ensure safe operation at all times
• Organize unloading of inbound freight to optimize outbound loading while meeting specific
customer requirements
• Manage the staging of offloaded freight as per door and zone plans
• Organize accurate loading of outbound freight (loading per manifest accuracy)
• Plan door usage, direct Shunter(s) and inbound drivers as required to achieve shift needs
• Manage inventory and ensure freight is properly placed on dock or trap trailers
• Manage paperwork as required to meet data requirements of other departments
• Complete required computer system inputs and use the system to get necessary
information
• Identify any variances and report as directed (e.g. skid count, weight, dimensions
• Maintain general cleanliness and organization of dock area
• Report any incidences of malicious freight activity or compromised freight integrity to
Terminal Manager
• Ensure that no malicious freight is brought onto dock or loaded/unloaded from a truck.
• Ensure daily inspection and completion of forklift on forklift maintenance form.
• Work with OS&D Clerk to resolve issues occurring on the shift

Requirements:

• Leadership skills and ability to organize and direct the dock team
• Communication skills and ability to present a business case for recommendations
• PC literate with experience in the use of TMW System software or its equivalent
• Must have a valid forklift license
• Previous experience with dock and warehouse procedures in the transportation industry
would be an asset.
