Job Description

Our client, a large, mission-driven organization, is seeking a Director, Controllership to provide strategic leadership across core finance operations, financial reporting, risk management, compliance, and process improvement initiatives. This role is responsible for ensuring the integrity, accuracy, and timeliness of financial information while leading teams that support accounting, payroll, accounts payable, inventory management, and enterprise risk management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the monthly close process and oversee the preparation of accurate and timely financial reporting.

  • Provide leadership for accounting, accounts payable, payroll, inventory management, and enterprise risk management functions.

  • Develop and enhance financial reporting systems, controls, and processes to support organizational decision-making.

  • Ensure compliance with applicable legislation, funding agreements, financial policies, and accountability requirements.

  • Lead external audits, internal control reviews, and compliance initiatives.

  • Oversee enterprise risk management activities, including risk assessments, governance frameworks, mitigation strategies, and reporting.

  • Drive process improvement and automation initiatives to improve financial reporting quality and operational efficiency.

  • Provide financial and risk-related reporting to senior leadership, board committees, and external stakeholders.

  • Lead, mentor, and develop finance professionals while fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

  • CPA designation required.

  • Undergraduate degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field; postgraduate education is an asset.

  • Minimum of 7 years of progressive controllership or senior finance leadership experience in a large, complex organization.

  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, internal controls, audit, compliance, and enterprise risk management.

  • Experience leading teams across multiple finance and operational support functions.

  • Proficiency with financial systems, reporting tools, and Microsoft Office applications.
