Job Description

Position Overview:

Our client in the Investment Management space is looking for a Corporate Controller to join their team, reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer. This leadership role will oversee the full accounting function, including financial and management reporting, treasury, payroll, tax compliance, and accounts payable/receivable. The ideal candidate will bring strong expertise in both Canadian GAAP and IFRS, have a deep understanding of the full accounting cycle, and be experienced in year-end audits and tax matters. This role is suited for someone who thrives in a dynamic, fast-moving environment and is ready to help shape scalable and efficient financial processes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver monthly management reporting and insights to senior leadership, supporting data-driven decision-making.
  • Compile and submit regulatory filings, including quarterly financial reports for the OSC.
  • Prepare annual financial statements, including supporting schedules and disclosures (income statement, balance sheet, cash flow).
  • Lead the external audit process and coordinate all necessary year-end requirements.
  • Oversee the day-to-day functions of the finance team across accounts payable, receivable, payroll, and cash operations.
  • Monitor cash flow and treasury activities, providing financial analysis and cost control recommendations.
  • Review and approve journal entries, sub-ledger reconciliations, and maintain fixed asset records.
  • Manage vendor relationships and associated payment processes, along with corporate expense tracking and recovery analysis.
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders, including investment operations, fund administrators, brokers, insurers, and legal counsel to ensure accurate financial records.
  • Develop annual budgets, track actual performance against forecasts, and conduct variance analysis.
  • Perform periodic valuations on warrants and investment securities for fair market reporting.
  • Administer the company’s equity compensation and stock-based programs.
  • Ensure timely tax compliance, including HST, limited partnership, and corporate tax filings; support year-end tax preparation and planning.
  • Lead process improvement initiatives within the finance function, using automation tools and emerging technologies such as AI.
  • Provide strategic support to the CFO, including special projects and other finance-related tasks as needed.

Qualifications:
  • CPA Designation
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance or Economics
  • 10+ years of progressive accounting and reporting experience
  • Experience with Canadian Commodity and Corporate Tax Reporting
  • Experience in a public accounting firm or previous experience managing audit and reporting cycles considered a strong asset
  • Detail oriented with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong leadership and team management abilities
  • Excellent communication skills; both verbal and written
