Position Title: Chief Financial Officer (CFO)
Location: Ottawa, ON

Our client, an established nonprofit in the Ottawa area, is currently seeking a strategic and values-driven CFO to join their Executive Team. Reporting to the CEO and serving as Treasurer to the Board, the CFO will oversee finance, accounting, payroll, contracts, and analytics, ensuring fiscal integrity, compliance, and long-term sustainability. As a key advisor, this role balances strategic leadership with operational oversight, guiding planning, investment, and risk management while building strong internal and external partnerships.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead financial strategy, planning, budgeting, and reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with Canadian standards, CRA requirements, and federal contracting frameworks.
  • Oversee internal controls, treasury, and enterprise risk management.
  • Develop and mentor a high-performing finance team.
  • Advise the CEO, Board, and senior leadership; represent the organization with federal and external stakeholders.

The ideal candidate:
  • Holds a CPA designation; MBA or advanced degree preferred
  • Brings significant progressive finance and accounting experience, including 5+ years in a senior leadership role.
  • Possesses strong knowledge of Canadian GAAP/ASPE and CRA requirements; experience with not-for-profit financial management and unionized environments is an asset.
  • Demonstrates the ability to influence, collaborate, and lead across large, complex, multi-division organizations.
  • Skilled in risk management, enterprise planning, and policy development.
  • Bilingual in English and French (highly desirable).
  • MUST be eligible for Government of Canada Secret Level Security Clearance.
