Our Client is a local health food franchise that provides healthy and responsibly sourced products. With several locations across Ottawa and an impressive growth strategy post-Covid, our Client is well-positioned and reputable in the nation's capital. With a family-run vibe and an expanding employee base and product lines, our Client is strategically hiring to build their team. As a result, we have an immediate opening for an Associate Category Manager.

As the Associate Category Manager, your main focus will revolve around enhancing the in-store experience, maintaining accurate product pricing, creating attractive product displays in line with current trends, and ensuring an overall captivating merchandise presentation. You'll collaborate closely with all departments to deliver an exceptional shopping experience to our customers. Leveraging your expertise in optimizing marketing strategies, you'll drive increased product sales and boost inventory turnover. As the primary point of contact for our extensive vendor community, your responsibilities will encompass requesting, testing, and evaluating new products, negotiating prices to offer appealing promotions, and coordinating various daily activities such as:
  • Product Placement: Deciding where and how products should be displayed in stores to attract customers and encourage purchases. This involves creating appealing product arrangements and displays.
  • Promotional Activities: Collaborate with the marketing team to establish competitive pricing and plan promotional activities for various product categories. This may involve designing flyers, in-store features, giveaways, and more.
  • Market Analysis: Dive into data and insights to identify industry and consumer trends, providing valuable input for decision-making.
  • Product Performance & Sales Strategy: Develop comprehensive, long-term strategies for product categories. Execute strategies for introducing new products and implementing exit strategies for underperforming ones. Craft and implement pricing strategies for all product categories.
  • Inventory Management: Forecast product demand to maintain optimal inventory levels, ensuring sustainable stock. This includes creating and adjusting planograms and ensuring signage meets our operating standards.
  • Relationship Building: Cultivate positive working relationships with Store Management, Team Members, and Vendors to foster a collaborative and productive work environment.

Your role is pivotal in enhancing the store's visual appeal, maximizing product sales, and delivering a seamless shopping experience to our valued customers.

The Ideal Candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in business, marketing, or a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities were acquired. Additional requirements of the position:
  • Intermediate/advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • Excellent selling, communication, and negotiation skills
  • Prioritizing, time management, and organizational skills
  • Relationship and Vendor management skills
  • Solid quantitative and analytical skills and the ability to work in a team setting, drive team results, and support organizational change management.
  • Must possess, or be able to develop rapidly, a strong knowledge of products within the health food industry
  • Exceptional storytelling & presentation skills, both oral and written
  • Ability to attend trade shows
  • Must be able to adhere to a work schedule that may include weekdays, evenings, and weekends
  • Capable of completing projects, cut-ins, display assembly, performing audits, and various other service-related activities

A valid Driver's License required
