About the Role:

Our client is looking for an Assistant Controller to join their team on a permanent basis within their Development Finance team. This role will be responsible for full-cycle accounting for development properties, including monthly financial reporting, audits, and the preparation of budgets and forecasts. The successful candidate will also handle the preparation, compilation, and posting of monthly journal entries and cost adjustments across multiple projects, as well as updating monthly Development Status Reports and other ad-hoc reports.

  • Manage the general ledger, including preparing and reviewing journal entries, and accruing capital expenditures.
  • Prepare and accurately complete reports, including variance analysis, balance sheet reviews, and Development Status Reports for development properties.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to prepare reforecasts and annual budgets.
  • Support the acquisition and disposition process, including due diligence activities.
  • Assist in coordinating and implementing training initiatives, as needed.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of accounting procedures and controls.
  • Partner with the Development team to ensure that all development draws and invoices are approved and processed in a timely manner.
  • Work closely with Development Managers and Assistant Project Managers to explain budget-to-actual variances and update forecast projections.
  • Collaborate with Development Managers and Assistant Project Managers to review quarterly letter of credit status reports and determine appropriate actions to request, reduce, or cancel letters of credit.
  • Gather and compile supporting financial information for year-end working papers and schedules.

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education in Accounting, Finance, or a related field of study
  • Minimum of 5 years of full-cycle accounting experience in real estate or development, including year-end audits; supervisory experience is preferred.
  • CPA designation or in the process of completion.
  • Strong Excel skills
  • Strong self-motivation, the ability to work independently, and a collaborative team player
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
