Job Description

Our client, a mission-driven not-for-profit organization and one of the oldest in Canada, is seeking a talented Sr. Accountant to oversee our accounting operations and provide financial leadership in support of our community impact. Reporting to senior leadership, this role combines hands-on financial management with a strong focus on process improvement, compliance, and stewardship of resources.

The ideal candidate will be a CPA (or actively pursuing designation) with proven leadership skills, a collaborative approach, and a passion for contributing their expertise to a purpose-driven organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain the general ledger, sub-ledgers, trial balance, and perform detailed account reconciliations.
  • Analyze general ledger activity supporting accurate reporting and financial integrity.
  • Manage the monthly financial close process, ensuring timely and accurate recording of costs, journal entries, bank reconciliations, and account reconciliations.
  • Ensure accurate and timely execution of accounts payable, accounts receivable, account reconciliations, and payroll journal entries.
  • Perform and review variance analysis on key revenue and balance sheet accounts after quarter-end and year-end close.
  • Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory reporting requirements, including WSIB, EHT, T4A, and GST/HST remittances.
Qualifications
  • CPA designation (or actively pursuing with significant progress).
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience, preferably in the not-for-profit or charitable sector.
  • Strong technical knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, and compliance requirements.
  • Familiarity with funding models, grants, and restricted funds is considered an asset.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
