About the Opportunity

Our client, a highly respected professional services firm in downtown Toronto, is redesigning its finance function and is seeking a Controller to help lead this transformation.

This is a high-impact, hands-on leadership role that will build and manage the organization’s financial infrastructure—covering budgeting, forecasting, reporting, and internal controls—while providing strategic insight to support operational excellence and long-term growth.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the annual budgeting process and ensure alignment with strategic goals

  • Build and maintain rolling forecasts, cash flow models, and financial projections

  • Oversee general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, and month/year-end close activities

  • Design and implement internal controls, approval workflows, and accounting policies

  • Prepare and present monthly financial reports and dashboards to senior leadership

  • Monitor KPIs, departmental spending, and profitability metrics to support decision-making

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with HR, IT, and Marketing to align budgets and optimize resources

  • Support system selection, implementation, and ongoing optimization

  • Partner with external accountants, auditors, and legal/tax advisors

  • Lead, mentor, and support a small internal accounting team (3 direct reports)


Qualifications

  • CPA designation (required)

  • Minimum 5+ years of progressive financial management experience

  • Experience in professional services; legal industry experience is an asset but not required

  • Demonstrated expertise in budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning

  • Strong understanding of internal controls, fiscal governance, and policy development

  • Experience supervising or mentoring team members is an advantage

  • Proficiency with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks) and Microsoft Excel
