They are currently looking for a Junior to Intermediate Property Accountant who can proactively identify, analyze, evaluate, and solve accounting issues within a growing real estate portfolio.

 

We are seeking a Junior to Intermediate Property Accountant to join our client’s finance and accounting team. Working with a savvy management group, where you will gain excellent mentorship, this role will be responsible for full-cycle accounting related to a portfolio of properties, ensuring accurate financial reporting and supporting the property management team with financial analysis and budgeting. Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform full-cycle accounting, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and month-end close processes.
  • Maintain and update the general ledger, ensuring all financial transactions are accurately recorded.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for assigned properties.
  • Process accounts payable (AP) and accounts receivable (AR), including rent roll reconciliation and tenant billings.
  • Monitor cash flow, prepare bank reconciliations, and manage trust account balances.
  • Assist with budget preparation, variance analysis, and forecasting for property financials.
  • Generate and analyze aging reports, ensuring timely collection of outstanding receivables.
  • Coordinate with property managers to resolve tenant inquiries and financial discrepancies.
  • Assist with the preparation of year-end audits, tax filings, and financial reporting packages.
  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards, internal controls, and company policies
  • Support the property managers with current budget updates and financial reports

 

The ideal candidate holds a diploma or degree in Accounting, or a Business Administration, with progress toward a CPA designation considered an asset. You will bring 2+ years of accounting experience, preferably in property accounting or real estate, and possess a strong understanding of full-cycle accounting principles and duties. Proficiency in accounting software such as Yardi would be an asset along with advanced Microsoft Excel skills is essential. You can demonstrate strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, excellent organizational and time management skills, and a high level of accuracy and attention to detail. Effective communication and interpersonal skills are crucial for collaborating with internal teams and external stakeholders. Your ability to learn and adapt quickly will be essential to your success. We are looking for an “up and comer” who has a genuine interest in the asset management or real estate industry and looking to get their foot in the door.
